Why the Name Opinion of the Melanated Veteran?

I had a few people ask me why I named my blog The Opinion of A Melanated Veteran.

Melanin: a dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, and iris of the eye in people and animals. It is responsible for tanning of skin exposed to sunlight.

Melanated : To be full of melanin

Veteran: a person who has served in the military.

I am proud to be an African American Woman that served in the military

Why Blog?

So here it goes...I decided to start this blog in an attempt to be transparent and hopefully help others who are dealing with some of the same things I am going through

I have major depression, anxiety, degenerative disc disease, arthritis in my back, and acid reflux just to name a few. I realized I may never fully recover, but I know I can at least manage my symptoms. The first step to recovering is acknowledging you have a problem.
